The center now has 22 general education classes for different aged children. There are 11 special preparatory classes, 1 kindergarten class, and 10 primary classes. The children are assigned to them as follows:

  • Kindergarten is for five and six year olds.
  • Kindergarten is followed by preparatory classes where   children seven and older receive specialized training which   allows them to go on to primary school, in form one through five. Class size is generally nine to twelve children.

For a variety of reasons, the center only admits children who are over 5 years old. Children under five need special care from their families, and, the center lacks the facilities to satisfy the needs of very young children.
However, in special circumstances when a very young child has been discovered to be with disabilities we can admit them, even as young as those under three.

An example of this would be Duong Thi Thuy Duong

who was discovered by our nuns to have needs we could assist with, and who was admitted at the age of two and a half. The wonderful result of this early intervention is that she now has better development of languages than that of her peers. Since the establishment of the center we have brought up and educated six thousand hearing impaired children. Our dream and hope is that in the future that all disabled children in Vietnam will one day soon be able to be treated at an early age, such as happens with children in developed nations around the world.

Hearing impaired people undergo many challenges and much suffering as a result of not being able to communicate their ideas and feelings with others, leaving them isolated and lonely. Their personal talents cannot be developed and often go unrecognized making it difficult for them to achieve an independent and successful life as adults. For children, we provide a general education up to the fifth form of school, and nuns from Saint Paul’s offer training in handicraft trades so that the children will be self sufficient as adults and so that they can assist with helping their families.Thuan An Center is also a teacher training center for teachers wishing to specialize in teaching hearing impaired children all over Southern Vietnam.Dear Friends,
Thank God that we are without disabilities so why not share our happiness and talents with those children who do have them.
Our center hopes very much to have the support of domestic and foreign individuals and corporations in order to have sufficient facilities and staff to achieve those goals.Thank You,
Thuan An Center.

School

Thuan An Eucation Center for Disabled Children in Binh Duong province (Lai Thieu) , Viet Nam, is a boarding school for hearing impaired children. We currently have over 300 children in residence, ranging in age from 5 to 20 years old.
Thuan An Center is also known more commonly by local people as the “Lai Thieu Hearing Impaired School”. For over 100 years, and for many, many generations of hearing impaired, our school has provided education and assistance. Thus, in Viet Nam, we are known as the cradle of this sort of training and assistance.Widely recognized from 1994 to the present for our achievements, we have been sponsored by Caritas along with help from the Binh Duong Teachers College. The center in 1994 began providing courses for primary school teachers who wished to teach children with hearing disabilities.Currently, the center is training 55 teachers who will graduate with a college and bachelor’s degree in education for the disabled. Once graduated, these teachers will serve throughout Southern Vietnam teaching the hearing impaired. The center is also cooperating with the Special Education Department of the Teachers Training University in providing a specialized course for teaching those with hearing difficulties.
In the years 2000-2004, this department is training, or has trained, 27 full-time students who will graduate with a bachelor’s of education for the disabled.

Dear Benefactor and sponsor.

In the memorial national day of Leprosy, we keep in mind those with leprosy with all our heart and commiserate. However, we do not pity those the victim of this disease but show deep compassion from the bottom of our heart. As they experience the feeling of isolation, without friends.

We hope that you will help us in the “Who are my brothers ? “ and “Compassion account” program. This will also help people suffering Leprosy. Also, we would like to take this opportunity to thank those whom have assisted in taking action to help the people suffering Leprosy in Vietnam.
By taking such action to alleviate the suffering of others in the world, the rewards will meet you in life.

Best Regards
Fr. Vincent Nguyen Ba Quy

Please give us a hand

Dear Benefactor and sponsor,     We are very honoured to send to you a list of poor students, living within a orphanage Thien Binh – Ðong Nai. These children are waiting and needed of assistance to continue their courses in 2002-2003. All these 48 students are enthusiastic, intelligent and are doing academically well in their course. However, the orphanage is lacking the funds to provide the children to finish their course. The orphanage can only manage to provide the children with food and a home, which is why they need the extra support of sponsors and benefactors. We really hope that you or your family to support the funding of a student or more. You can support the student/s through a yearly or monthly donation. Your donation will go towards giving the student a future to be useful in society and the church.

As you would already know, the students would have to pay a basic fee to enter their course and other payments. Please help us!

This is the school fee of each student’s course per month:

- From grade 1-3: 20 students- each student needs assisting of 50,000 Dong VN (approximately about $4 US) /per month
- From grade 4-5: 14 students- each student needs assisting of 60,000 Dong VN (approximately about $5 US) /per month
- From grade 6-8: 7 students- each student needs assisting of 80,000 Dong VN (approximately about $7 US) /per month
- From grade 9-12: 7 students- each student needs assisting of 100,000 Dong VN (approximately about $8 US) /per month
Overall, the 48 students need 3,100,000 Dong VN (approximately about $220 US) per month.
